WHAT DRIVES US

Our Essence

SOO-DAWI aligns its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to drive health equity, social impact, and sustainable healthcare solutions. Our work contributes to several key SDGs:

The Global Perspective

We promote preventive healthcare, early detection, and diabetes management programs to reduce mortality and complications from diabetes. Our initiatives ensure quality healthcare reaches under-resourced communities.

Through nutritional awareness campaigns, we educate individuals on diabetes-friendly diets and partner with organisations to improve food security and promote healthy eating habits.

We advocate for inclusive healthcare policies and strategies that ensure diabetes care is accessible and affordable for all, especially vulnerable populations.

Recognising the economic burden of diabetes, we advocate for affordable medication, subsidised screenings, and support programs for low-income individuals.

Our diabetes literacy programs, workshops, and community outreach dispel myths, reduce stigma, and equip individuals with essential knowledge for self-management and prevention.

We collaborate with healthcare professionals, policymakers, corporate organisations, and international bodies to drive impactful solutions, increase diabetes awareness, and expand healthcare access.

African Aspirations

As an African-focused initiative, SOO-DAWI aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions "The Africa We Want," a prosperous, inclusive, and healthy continent. Our work supports key aspirations and goals of the Agenda:

Aspiration 1: A Prosperous Africa, Based on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development

Our health programs contribute to a healthy and well-nourished population by enhancing diabetes care access, reducing health disparities, and promoting better nutrition.

Aspiration 3: An Africa of Good Governance, Democracy, Respect for Human Rights, Justice, and the Rule of Law

We advocate for equitable healthcare policies and call for greater government accountability in addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes.

Aspiration 6: An Africa Whose Development is People-Driven, Relying on the Potential of its People, especially its Women and Youth and well-cared-for children

Our initiatives enable women and youth through health education, and support programs, related to diabetes awareness and management.

Aspiration 7: Africa as a Strong, United, Resilient, and Influential Global Player and Partner

By engaging in international collaborations and partnerships, SOO-DAWI strengthens Africa’s global efforts in public health, innovation, and sustainable development.
